Despite the fact that the endorsements needed to carry out the mining project in Rosia Montana had been obtained by deeds at the limit of the law or even by infringing it, as the organisation Alburnus Maior says, the representatives of Rosia Montana Gold Corporation (RMGC) dared to request the Bucharest Court of Appeal an increase in their claims in the case against the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MMDD), Minister Attila Korodi and State Secretary Silviu Stoica.

The requested additional sum amounts to 900 000 euros, the reason invoked by the RMGC being the need to pay a first instalment of the compensatory payments of 1.5 million euros owed to the employees made redundant after the MMDD decision to stop the procedure for the authorisation of the mining project in the Apuseni mountains.

In support of its request, RMGC says it has already paid 877 302 euros, that is 3 216 102 lei, of which 986 310 lei represent compensatory payments according to the Collective Labour Contract, and 2 229 792 lei compensatory payments according to the draft collective dismissal. By its request submitted to the court, RMGC raises its request for damages formulated in the case against the MMDD, Minister Korodi and State Secretary Stoica, from the initial sum of 100 000 euros to 977 302 euros, the total increasing with the already paid sum. The RMGC also says that, for the remaining 608 252 euros, it reserves the right to make a new request to increase the claim, after this money has been paid to the redundant employees.

RMGC sued the Ministry of Environment, but also Minister Attila Korodi and State Secretary Silviu Stoica, the representative of the ministry in the Committee for Technical Analysis of the mining project, as the company is dissatisfied with the decision of the institution to interrupt the procedure of authorising the mining project.

A month ago, Alburnus Maior announced they had already made five penal complaints against the counsellors who had issued the necessary endorsements by infringing the law. "The criminal complaints lodged against two representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the President of the Alba County Council, Ion Dumitrel, and two representatives of the Rosia Montana Local Council are related to the crime of abuse of office against public interests", declared at the time Stefania Simion, counsellor of the Alburnus Maior Association, pointing out that the endorsement was done by infringing the legal regulations, having in view that some of the Alba County Council members were either RMGC employees, or their relatives.
