“Science without conscience is the soul’s perdition” François Rabelais
The great university centres in the world have turned into a tradition the organisation of debates and the proposal of solutions to the controversial issues and topics the society is confronting with at a certain point.
Due to its complexity, the case of Roșia Montană represents such a debate topic. Babeș-Bolyai University, the Romanian Academy and ICOMOS Romania have gathered in the effort to analyse, in an academic framework, the multiple aspects implied by the mining project proposed by RMGC, the durable development of the area, the preservation and exploitation of the natural and cultural patrimony, the social impact and, last but not least, the civil involvement in the decision-making process for the future of the society.
The Conference “Roșia Montană in Universal History” will gather, on 11-12 November 2011, in the Aula Magna of Babeș-Bolyai University, numerous and renowned personalities from the most important universities in Romania and from abroad, who are competent to express their opinions on this matter.
Personalities who confirmed their participation to this event have assumed the moral duty of using their knowledge for the benefit of the society, understanding the fact that a community cannot develop normally unless major decisions take into account the opinion of the experts from all fields.
